Vintage Rabari woolen shawl from the Kutch region of Gujarat, India.
The Rabari are an indigenous tribal caste of nomadic cattle and camel herders that live throughout northwest India, primarily in the states of Gujarat, Punjab and Rajasthan. The word "Rabari" translates as "outsiders" and the exact origin of the Rabari people is disputed. Traditionally, the Rabari were nomadic but today the majority have settled outside towns and cities and are semi-nomadic.
Handwoven wool shawl features tie-dye, embroidery and mirrorwork, all done by hand. Finished with hand-tied tassels.
