An uncommon 19th century East Turkestan runner (or ‘long narrow carpet’) from either Khotan or Yarkand - age old oasis towns on the southern branch of the ancient Silk Road - in what is now the western most region of China but was once known as East Turkestan. It has an asymmetrically designed center field filled with various rosettes, clouds and pomegranates, along with other archaic motifs, while the main border features the ‘wave line’ motif above which are ruyi clouds. Red, yellow and dark brown are the predominate colours throughout, with the red showing several areas of abrash. The size is 313cm x 93cm (approximately 123in x 37in), it has wool pile and cotton warp and weft and was made sometime in the 1800’s. It is in fair condition for its age showing signs of wear and low pile throughout. Please see more photos and information here https://warpandweft.club/portfolio-item/khotan-item-6/
