a very rare antique Uzbek or Tajik silk embroidered nim suzani on an atlas Ikat ground. Dating to third quarter of the 19th century Samarkand region. Suzani Ikat’s are some of the rarest types of central Asian silk textiles as they merge two of the best textiles of the region into one. This magnificent example is a very coveted one. The silk warp / silk weft atlas ikat ground fabric is a rare in itself being mostly yellow colour with elegant repeating floral motifs repeating in white filled with touches of indigo patterns. The embroidery is executed in flat stitch typical of Samarkand suzanis with spaced out flower motifs repeating in varying colours combination along the borders, leaving the middle empty so the design of the Ikat pops out. Seldom suzani ikats manage to accomplish such elegant balance. The colours are magnificent and likely all natural. It is finished with adras ikat edging and Russian floral cotton lining. In good overall shape with one old repair to ground silk, hardly distracting . This dowry embroidery is rare and very unique and would add nicely in any good collection. Offered at a very reasonable price for what it is. size: 150cm x 120cm (59” x 47”). … ….
