This third quarter 19th century Borchalou Kazak #7775 antique Oriental Caucasian carpet measures 5’2” x 7’5” (158 x 229 cm). The three panel field consists of two red squares flanking a green one. All are different sizes. Each square contains a different medallion. They are all three very asymmetrical. The border around the field is a reciprocal of the outer minor border which consists of six sided rhomboids in various color combinations and both the inner and outer reciprocal minor borders have a variation in design making a slight asymmetry. The major border consists of a serrated lozenge motif which is extremely asymmetrical. The rug is essentially in mint condition with complete ends and sides. It is full pile. i have never seen a Kazak with this same motif. It is unbelievably beautiful and an absolute work of art of a true Master!
