Antique voided silk velvet panel with gold and silver thread on a cotton ground, 131 x 50 cm.
Ottoman/Italian? 17th/18th c.? Original sides, with its original trimming.
Not sure if the two attached straps are original. It is possible they were added some time later for unknown reason. Underneath them the blue silk velvet looks more greenish and the gold and silver threads still have their sheen there. This makes it also insightful that all the other areas outside the silk were initially decorated with either silver threads, or with gold threads - whereby the silver was at the low areas and the gold was at the elevated parts of the panel. It will have given a breathtaking effect when new.
The gold and silver threads are executed in two different varieties: either wrapped respectively around a yellow or a white silk core, or as plain thin narrow strips.
Priced as for eu export.
