a beautiful antique Uzbek silk embroidered suzani on a yellow cotton ground from rural Shahrisabz region. Dating to the early 3rd quarter of the 19th century, it boasts an extremely fine chain-stitched silk embroidery which photos fail to capture and needs to be seen in person to be appreciated. The design, while relatively simplistic, with floral motifs repeating in predominantly blue, red, white and green with intricate details in varying colours. These flowers stem from vines that free flow through the field and the borders. The lack of exact pattern creates a visual delight that constantly moves the eye. The colours are gorgeous and all derived from natural dyes. i assume that salmon red could be an insect dye and likely lac (?). The contrasts beautifully with the rich yellow cotton ground. It is finished with fabulous printed cotton lining boasting elaborate paisley motifs and finished with silk Ikat edges. In good overall shape and offered at an affordable price. size: 130cm x 102cm (51” x 40”) ….
