An excellent antique Uzbek Lakai tribe silk embroidery known as Ilgich / Ayna Khalta. Dating to the late 19th century. It is envelope shaped with a false flap, often assumed to be mirror cover for bridal ceremony. The silk embroidery repeats a quintessential floral motif arranged meticulously within the shape and repeat in varying colour format. The inner detail of this motif is made up of curving patterns of flowers. These were talismanic embroideries made not just for ceremony but also to provide protection to the newly married couple. They were also prized dowry offering. Fine embroidery. Rich dazzling colours. In good overall shape with some patina. It has beautiful floral lining and original tassels. Offered at a reasonable price and worthy of any collection. size: 57cm x 57cm (22” x 22”) with tassels extending an extra 7.5cm (3”). ……..
