Back
Caucasian Kazak rug, late 19th c. Generous size--54 inches wide by 86 inches long (4 feet 6 in. x 7 feet 2 in, or 135 cm x 219 cm). Blue-ground field has staggered rows of large, hooked diamonds with stars in their centers on. Good, strong natural colors. Red wefts. Red 3-cord selvage finish mostly in good condition, but has some loose threads and some short sections damaged. Ends with very slight loss. At first glance it might appear to have been cut-and-shut, but this is not the case---it apparently was badly-worn on wrinkles or puckers across the lower end and this area has been crudely stitched up at times in the past (see last image). Several additional scattered small holes and low pile. Direct contact at rjemry@gmail.com
