Antique Cross-stitch wool embroidery, 5'5 x 8'4, made in Goa,India, 19th century. Beautiful, saturated colors with unusual radial field design of multi-colored horses, peacocks and small birds flanking trees of life, and stylized butterflies, all arrayed around a monumental central star. Elaborate, finely detailed side panels of parallel borders containing birds, flowers,vines,and geometrical forms. Embroidered surface in very good to excellent condition. The cloth backing has two 2-inch holes or tears and couple of small ones, but the entire textile is otherwise in supple, usable condition. Very unusual piece.
