Tibet antique miniature mat - finely made in the Tibetan technique was possibly produced by a devotee household as an ' Asana ' ( sitttng mat ) for a monk or Abbot. That or possibly as a supplementary rug for a horse saddle. The felted wool cloth surround is of a felted twill cloth which is most lkely locally produced as in monks robes or even British ! Some minor damages from moth have been comprehensively treated by us by freezing to minus 45 c. Some darns to the crimson wool surround. Evidence of a cloth cotton backing shows it to have been been removed as such cloths can becomes greasy from thsampa and or yak butter. Whilst the dyes appear natural the pink appears to be an early acid colour unless it is a lac exhaust derivative. There are two small worn spots in the border.
