This circa 1890 Peking Chinese Oriental Rug measures 9’1” x 11’7” (277 x 356 cm). The rug has a wonderful dark blue ground covered with 12 sprigs of flowers beautifully arranged around the center floral medallion. The corners are very well worked in the same type of motif as the medallion in the center. One interesting thing about the corner motif and the center medallion is a figure that looks very much like a lobster with eight legs two of which are claws. Looks to me very much like dinner for eight. There are two ivory borders. The major border is ivory with multi colored blooms in blue and pink with meandering vine motif in very light pink. The inner ivory border has basically the same design as the larger major border. The rug is essentially in perfect condition. The ends and sides are complete. It is clean and ready to go.
