a fantastic antique Uzbek Lakai tribe silk embroidered talismanic ilgich hanging fragment dating to the 19th century. These bridal embroideries were made as dowry offerings and hung on yurts / tents as symbolic protective symbols. The beauty of the Lakai embroideries are very unique and the motifs and designs were distinct from the other central Asian silk work. This example is one of the most coveted i have come across. Though it is a fragment, it consists of about 80% of the once full piece and beautifully mounted and stretched. The fine silk embroidered boasts a dazzling design that executes classic Lakai motifs to perfection. Furthermore the masterly use of colours to render the design is just magnificent. Particular the use of rich primary colours, blue, green, red and yellow mixed with black and white create a visual spectacle that is just pure art. The ground wool fabric is a beige / yellow one. Often we see Lakai work on red or black ground. These beige types are rare to find. Though a fragment, the work otherwise is in mint condition and worthy of any top collection. Offered at a fair price. size: 50cm x 40cm (19.5” x 15.75”) …..
