rare antique double bag from the shah savan in north western persia. This tribal group presents great difficulty in determining the origin of their weaving. This is because they were re-settled into Persia from their Anatolian home and during this trek many decided drop out and create their own new areas. Over the centuries they have been influenced by their Persian nomadic neighbours and each has borrowed designs from the other. The foundations of the bag are strips of hessian coloured plain strips of left over kilim. This material can be seen in a few published pieces attributed to the Shah Savan of Moghan. Designs have been added in very fine woven wools with fixtures, such as closing loops, hand spun woven ropes also using left over wool from the backing. Reference 4000. Size 118 x 47 cms, or 46 x 18 inches.
