This circa 1850 Melas Turkish antique Oriental Rug #8230 measures 3’ 5” x 4’ 9”. It has a very unique design i have never seen before. The Melas red field has a central motif of 6 feathers in six different colors. They are two shades of green, ivory, blue, and a different shade of red. The field is surrounded by 5 small borders. The furthest one has a yellow ground with flowers. There is one single row of brown serving as a border. The next border has a meandering s on red, white, and blue on a brown ground. The major border has brown and purple carnations surrounded by arrow motifs in brown, blue and ivory on a yellow gold ground. Every corner of the border is different. The outer minor border has red, brown and blue flowers on an ivory ground. There is an extra border at each end I’ll ala Melas and they’re different at both ends.
