"Mystery" Caucasian long rug, 41 x 96 inches / 104 x 244 cm. Five differently conceived hooked diamond medallions on a black field. i suspect it may have originated from the NorthEast Caucasus, probably Daghistan. Very peculiar coarse and uneven weave with many changes of pace, indicating a possibly nomadic origin. In addition to wool, other animal fibers were used, probably goat -- and who knows what else.
