An outstanding antique silk warp / cotton weft Uzbek Adras early Ikat fragment hanging from Bukhara. All silk warp and cotton weft Adras Ikat. The central part, with a predominantly yellow ground, dates to the first half of 19th century. Once cut up for inner edges of a Chapan / robe and then meticulously stitched back together to reform the original design. Then finished with the striped Adras Ikat from third quarter of the 19th century. The design is fantastic with elegant floral motifs with white, red, burgundy, green and blue against a yellow ground. The areas around decorated with elongated buds and red shrubs… all of which derived from natural dyes. The striped edges have rich green, indigo, burgundy and white colours which contrasts beautifully with the archaic central panels. Backed with a layer cotton lining. This repurposed fragment would add nicely in any collection. Size: 94cm x 56cm (37” x 22”). …..
