Antique Tekke Turkmen dowry rug of fine weave and scarce design.
Circa 1880.
These rugs are considered to be ‘dowry’ weavings used by the Turkmen bride on her wedding day.
This example has 3 rows of 10 ovoid shaped guls, with minor guls of a similar format. Tekke rugs of this design are considered to be scarce. The ground colour is a soft madder red; note the elem panels at each end with the traditional Turkmen tree design. The rug has very fine soft wool with excellent colour, the handle of the rug is very floppy.
The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile.
