a very rare example of an Antique Indian Jainamaz Dhurry / Dhurrie Rug dating to 1910. This particular example was made in Deccan and i have seen only four or five examples known to exist, one of them published in the book Dhurries by Nada Chaldecott page 140 (see last image above), but this is the larger example of them all. Single saf dhurries were part of the Indian Dhurrie tradition and very sought after but this particular interpretation of it with a cusped arch, lotus flower and mosque lantern motif is very rare to find and inspired from the architecture and arches of Langar-ki mosque. The predominant pale pink field (a much admired colour in Deccan work), sky blue, pistachio green, white and indigo work harmoniously together giving the design an elegance. Like all dhurries, it is fine flat woven in cotton making the design visible on both sides. The condition is good for age, a few old repairs and patina that really doesn’t distract the elegance and beauty. This rare example is offered at a reasonable price and worthy of any top collection. size: 185cm x 125cm (6’1” x 4’1”) ……………If you message via rugrabbit and don’t get a response within 24 hours, then your message hasn’t got to us so please email directly to: istalificollections@outlook.com.)
