An elegant Antique Uzbek Ikat Robe Chapan from Bokhara / Bukhara. It is an adras Ikat (silk warp/cotton weft) from early third quarter of the19th Century. The design is relatively unique and by no means common. Yellow and red pomegranate motifs repeat in red and yellow against white and indigo stripes. The contrasting primary colours create a dazzling visual effect. The rich colours are gorgeous and are all natural dyes. It is finished with a silk woven trim and two silk tassels for tying. The lining is a fantastic printed cotton in rich reds. It is in a very good shape and condition with a couple of marks on the sleeves that are not distracting and possibly can be cleaned. a fine textile art worthy of any collection and offered at a fair price. There is a similar example at State Pushkin Museum of Fine Art (Moskow 2002) and published in the book "Ikats from Turkestan", Tair f. Tairov collection, p. 92/no 63.
