Unique pile-less, flat-woven, Tibetan seating square that is almost certainly nomadic or rural work. It has been constructed using a very interesting and unusual weaving technique (for Tibet) consisting of two ‘layers’; that is with what we see on the front appearing to have been over-stitched onto a finely woven woolen backing panel. Made in the early part of the 1900’s, probably the 1920’s, the size 68cm x 69cm (approximately 26.5in x 27in) and the double dorje at the center suggests that it may have been made as a gift / donation intended for use by a monastic personage. Handspun wool has been used for its entire construction, either undyed light brown wool for the most part, or coloured wool for the designs and secondary borders. It is in excellent condition and would certainly suit a collector of unusual Tibetan, or exotic, weavings.
