Antique Tekke or Saryk Turkmen torba of very fine weave, with 'kedjebe' design.
Circa 1870.
Size: 3ft 6in x 1ft 3in (107 x 38cm) face size.
A very good torba with excellent colour and good wool. These torba were used to decorate the side of a camel during a Turkmen wedding procession, these were prized possessions and formed part of the wedding dowry. The were kept as heirlooms and displayed inside the yurt. This example is of fine weave and has survived in excellent condition. The design is associated with weddings and this example has beautiful clear drawing, i personally lean towards a Saryk attribution.
The torba is in excellent condition with very slight wear and excellent pile.
