This circa 1890 Peking Chinese rug #6164 measures 10’2” x 17’3’. This beautiful gigantic rug has a small center medallion of a dragon in a standoff with a cow or dog all encircled with clouds. To the right and left of this design and touching the borders are cloud formations with birds flying out of them. At either end of the rug going into the middle, therefore creating a non directional rug, are rocks sitting in a lake with a farmer in each corner pulling a water buffalo unto the dry land with three nicely drawn trees with birds in them. The border is absolutely stunning. It is darkest blue with very large Chinese characters every approx. 2 ½ feet. The rug is in excellent condition for its age. It is 95% full pile. The low spots in this rug are hardly noticeable and do not take away from the beauty of this 150 year old rug. The ends and sides are intact.
