Three panels from what was once a much longer runner made in the Baotou-Suiyuan region of Inner Mongolia (China). The center squares feature a dragon frolicking in clouds, with the yellow squares having foliate-styled dragons in each corner, while the red square has bats. Given the outer border design mimics the much loved 'tigma' tie-dyed design pattern favoured by Tibetans, it would be safe assume this was meant for either a monastery or aristocratic personage in Tibet. Made circa the late 1800’s / 1900, the size is 200cm x 74cm (approximately 79in x 29in), the warp is cotton and the weft wool, somewhat uncommon for a Chinese carpet. Altogether an interesting older piece with no repairs save for either ends having been stabalised when shortened, but otherwise in good condition.
