Tibetan woolen cover or ‘blanket’ made for use on a horse or yak with ‘crusader-like-cross’ motifs arrayed in a staggered linear pattern across the face that gives a pleasing fluid movement to the arrangement. Made circa 1900 or possibly before, it has a fleecy woolen pile, the colours are from natural dyes and both the warp and weft are of handspun wool (with what appears to be yak hair in both). The width across the bottom is 140cm, across the top 127cm, and the height is 107cm (approximately 55in x 50in x 42in respectfully) and it has a soft floppy ‘handle. There is a small old reweave, barely discernible from the front side, but overall it is an attractive old takheb in good condition for its age with it’s ostensibly-scattered array of motifs giving it a very pleasant visual appeal.
