Tibetan Saddle cover, 19th c. 46" x 25" in mint condition with all natural dyes and remarkably soft, shiny wool. Thomas Wild provided a fascinating program on so-called "rko rugs" for the New England Rug Society yesterday. In his presentation, he described the ancient origins of the Tuyuhun gul, and its remarkable continued heritage in Tibetan weaving. The saddle cover being offered shows one of the variations of the gul and includes the traditional pearl border. i purchased the piece approx. 35 years ago. The water turned black when first washed followed by the emergence of the beautifully deep saturated colors. If one were to own only one Tibetan saddle cover, it would be difficult to find a more perfect example.
