Antique Ersari Turkmen saddle cover / rug with interesting design.
Size: 2ft 0in x 2ft 0in (62 x 60cm).
Circa 1900.
This excellent tribal saddle rug by the Ersari Turkmen of southern Turkmenistan or Northern Afghanistan features an interesting repeat design with subtle colour changes. Note the opening for the pommel of the saddle and the original decorative tassels.
Excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile, some signs of tribal use.
A related example is in the Textile Museum Collection, item: 1993.36.44. Also published in 'Adorning the Horse' item number 35, page 219.
