Beautifully coloured small carpet from the Baotou region of China that, given the tigma (cross) design in the striped central field, was probably intended as a seating carpet for the Tibetan market. Made in the early 1900’s, it has a thick pile of soft silky wool, cotton warp and weft and the size is 102cm x 54cm (approximately 40in x 21in). There are several small old repairs throughout, although most are indiscernible from the front side, otherwise it is in good condition.
