This kilim suzani from Central Asia is made of eight narrow strips of woollen warp-faced plain weave (circular photo, ultra close-up), first hand woven on a crude portable loom, then stitched horizontally together and over-embroidered with richly coloured wool to form the talismanic motifs. Woven circa 1900 by tribal / nomadic weavers of the Uzbek associated Kungrat tribe it is of all wool construction and the size is 145cm x 241cm (57in x 95in), plus fringes. a very interesting all hand woven tribal piece still in good condition for its age, its quirky construction points to being made strictly for personal use (as opposed to commercial production).
