a fine Antique Ottoman Turkish or Levantine ( possibly Syrian) Silk Crochet Money Pouch (Para Kesesi), possibly made in the last quarter of the 19th century. Such silk coin purses are very rare and this is an excellent example. Tightly worked in micro-gauge tapestry crochet (tığ işi) featuring diagonal turquoise and deep violet stripes, a radiant starburst rosette base, and an oya lacework mouth. Retains its original braided green silk drawstring with metallic thread-wrapped acorn finials. Worn tucked into a waist sash (kuşak). Excellent clean condition. Size: collar 21cm x 5cm (8” x 2”).
