Erasari (mad) Chuval, pre 1875. large: 1.44 x 1.08 (1.05) m. Brown goat hair wefts, mixed gray, tan & black goat hair warps. Excellent color, and lustrous sheep's wool pile. It has a soft pale yellow, excellent blues, and a fair amount of real Green! ;-)) Most of the shrubs in the bottom elem are green. Au contraire to so many large city rugs and even later trappings in the late 19th c. coming out of this area which may or may not be the product of Ersari tribal weaving; this is the real deal...... It has a couple of old patches in the corners that appear to be quite old, as the piece was certainly used and as is common, the corners got damaged. It is interesting as the repair seems also to be old Turkmen repair and not a later construction. As you can see in the middle of the lower elem there is also a small area where the moths used to congregate for lunch and probably chat about the quality of Turkmen sheep's wool and bitch about their misfortune at not living on the other side of the mountains in some place which offered rare delicacies.... like say.... Kashmir!? ;-)) ,,,,, which is why the area is so small, after "chewing the fat" along the Amu Darya for a few days they probably took off for parts East? In any case it would only be a couple days work, if someone wanted it done for them after purchase, and i would be happy to do it for no extra charge....s
price:  SOLD...! ;-))
