Offered here is a superb antique Kashmir shawl, made in the kani weave and attributed to the late Sikh period, to circa 1850. It shows splendid, vivid colours, superior design charactristics typical of the period, and very fine weave indeed. The main field with its amazing design and wonderful sky-blue ground colour, is truly exceptional and highly unusual. It measures 116 x 52 inches (295 x 132 cm). It is in good condition for its age, with several small holes here and there, easily fixable.
A detail of another late Sikh shawl, with a similar design and colour palette, is published in the latest excellent publication
- Woven Masterpieces Of Sikh Heritage -, by Frank Ames, pp 15.
