So-called Old Mizoram Dancing Skirt from the extreme ne of India near the Burmese border, perhaps the Mizoram region. 52 x 34 inches. The skirt has a fabulous discontinuous supplemental warp design on a field of blue-black (indigo), burgundy, sky blue, grean and yellow stripes (see closeup photos of the fine design). The weave is a relatively fine. The material is cotton. The bangles are made of seeds, red beads, and long brass pipe beads, with cowrie shell designs. Many of the bangles are there, but some are missing or incomplete. The textile portion is in excellent condition with superlative colors. The top most deep blue section appears somewhat dirty in the photos, but i think it’s more where the indigo fabric has rubbed together. This is an excellent uncommon textile from a remote part of the world that will be a great addition to any collection. www.banjaratextiles.com
