Very rare banyan, man's coat or persian kaftan from the late 18c or early 19c. it is completely quilted on a printed lining. The chintz is pencilled with a calame, kind of pencil that was used not only to apply the dye, but also for dyeing the wax in reserve. the design is finely painted with daisies, small indian flowers and concentric circles that fill the entire canvas. Apertures under the arms, sleeves and slits on the side with pockets, the banyan is fully piped with silk braid. Good condition.
Measures: height 122 cm, shoulder 48 cm, Sleeve length 60 cm, height 70 cm.
This type of piece was worn by the Persian officials but also in Europe as a home coat called banyan for many centuries. Undoubtedly rare and precious. a very high quality chintz. a museum piece for sure!
