This is a Caucasian (Azerbaijan) rug that shows elements of Cheleberd, Talish, Gendje, Kasak and Karagashli and is circa mid 19th century. i am sorry but i cannot attribute this rug more precisely at this time but i believe it is one of the aforementioned. The predominace of the crosses alludes to a Christian religious significance. The crosses themselves are on a background which has been described collectively as 'flaming crosses'. On top of these there appears what i believe are crab garlands. At the perimeters of the rug there are oak saw leaves, glasses and flower heads. There has been a very small restoration to one of the corners which has been done well. Otherwise, in good overall condition considering it's age. This is a striking example of an old Caucasian rug. Approximate Dimensions: 6' 9" x 3' 9 1/2".
