Rare Lao tubeskirt with unusual colors and weave- probably made by a Khmu weaver (non-Tai) to be worn in Xam Neua and identify with the local Tai. Note typically-Tai figures in detail. Handspun threads, some natural color, some not; very loosely woven. Condition is excellent; probably mid-20thc., but hard to know for certain. Formerly in Patricia Cheesman's (author of 'Lao-Tai Textiles') private collection. This piece could warrant a research paper. Additional photos available.
