Burmese Buddhist Manuscript 'kammawa' or kammavaca' - Richly decorated and in excellent condition, this is the best example of these unusual manuscripts we've seen in a long time. This one is particularly unusual in that it has an inscription on the covers, which we have had translated. It was given to a temple in Mandalay in 1954 to make merit for a deceased relative by his family. Made of lacquered and gilded palm for the pages, and lacquered and gilded wood for the covers, this manuscript is complete and surprisingly has no broken corners or edges (note that three corners on an end page have been repaired). We rarely see these complete anymore, and to find one this fine is even rarer. (Please see Fraser-Lu, Sylvia; Burmese Lacquerware; Orchid Press 2000; p.137). Please write for more photos or info.
