Back
Here is a beautiful old Mushwani Belouch Balisht. Measureing
19" wide and 36" long the balisht is in excelent condition.
a "Balisht" is a pillow made with a pile front face and a
kelim back which is folded up and bound (usally in goat hair)
along the sides. Most of these came to the market during hard
times and the backs were cut off to make them into small rugs.
a shame really as these were usually pirzed dowery pieces.
Mushwani Belouch are known for weaveings with long silky
wool and deeply saturated colors. This piece is exactly that,
with several shades of red, natural black, a rich green (very
charistic of these rugs) along with highlights of white all on
soft natural camel hair background. This is very finely woven
and has a soft rich handle. The "Tree Of Life" pattern seen
here is a rare design for these weavers.
