Afshar rug; around 1875; well known design known from Afshar bags, never seen a rug with it; i bought this Afshar direct from the well known collection from Meyer-Müller Zurich/Switzerland. This rug is listed in a book “Der Orient Teppich” Meyer-Müller wrote in 1917 on page 32 as number 6633 as a Schiras 121 x 145cm. i think Schiras fits with Afshar (book is included in this offer). Size is 143 x 119 cm ( 4`8” x 3`11”); on top and bottom each a stripe of Soumac 5cm (2”), rug has no fringes; sides are probably renewed; nice colouration (8 or more)with beautiful wool, very good condition with 5-6 repairs in “coin size”, means some knotted are replaces; rug has red weft; knot density is 1575 per qdm (45 x 35) or (99 per sq.in (11x9)),warp is slightly depressed. On back side is original collection number sewed, the black stripes i sewed on the rug to fix it on a frame (means they can be demounted).
