Pair of antique and big Ceramic Albarelli from Civita Castellana, one of of the most famous ceramic maker places in Italy. Fratelli Crestoni Di Girolamo. Civita Castellana. Viterbo. Lazio. Central Italy.
Dimensions: h is 33 cm, d is 17 cm.
They are called Albarelli. An albarello (plural: albarelli) is a type of maiolica earthenware jar, originally a medicinal jar designed to hold apothecaries' ointments and dry drugs.
Hard glazed majolica, enameled outside and inside, with polychrome painting on white glaze. Hand made, hand decorated with beautiful colors. The pattern on front shows coat of arms of neighbouring castles, feud with armour. Both Albarelli are marked on bottom GCFT.
The Fratelli Crestoni Di Girolamo opened in 1900 and closed in 1931.
In very good conditions, there is only a tiny chipping on one of the bases.
