Sinanli kilim/cuval fragment. Cm 68x102. Datable 1860/1880 or earlier. The Sinanli were part of the bigger Reshwani tribal group. They were mainly located in Eastern Anatolia. This lovely fragment might be a cuval/storage bag face or part of a Kilim strip. It's extremely fine woven. Wool, cotton and lots of very thin metal thread. Great deep natural saturated colors. Cochineal red and deep indigo blue dominate the scene. Ram horns and big stars form the pattern. If it was a cuval bag face it was certainly not for daily use, but probably a wedding bag, or? In any case a really beautiful piece of gone tribal art. Condition issues as you see from photos.
