This kilim originally is part of a mafrash, or suitcase to store bedding items. The Shahsevan located primarily in North West Iran and on the territory of the present-day Republic of Azerbaijan. The two sides of the kilim with more pattern were meant to be seen whilst the striped area was the bottom part of the suitcase. This kilim from the end of the 19th century was woven by a nomad or village woman, using her own hand-carded wool. All the dyes are natural.
