The buckle or pulley of this malband has the shape of a woman, similar to the Turkish elibelinde motif. In mint condition. This antique malband has been woven with wool dyed with natural dyes.
Malbands are long narrow bands used to fasten loads onto camels, mules and horses for migration. Malbands are delicatelly woven, normally reversible, woven in a warp-faced double weave, with geometric designs and animals.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool and timber
Size: 720×7 cms
Origin: Baktiarii tribe, Iran
Date of weaving: 1940s or earlier
