Swim brother swim fast downstream, the river is danger, the hungry croc could be behind the corner…..”
The pattern makes us think of these words by…???
Africa. Pikuran or cache sex, created and used by the Kirdi people in Northern Cameroon. In Arabic the name Kirdi means non muslim or infidel and was attributed to several ethnic animist groups of Sudanese origin: Kapsiki, Mundane, Mafa, Massa, etc.
These were worn for celebrations, rituals and rites of passage by women who had reached puberty for protection against the evil eye and also to attract attention. The government of Cameroon since 1961, has outlawed the use of cache sexe, but the practice continues under cover of robes. (Amazigh, Africa Direct, etc.)
Seed beads, cowrie shells and cotton string. Vintage. Great creativity. Pure tribal art. Cm 16x42
See the several books by Angela Fisher, Borel, Ghysels, etc.etc.
