butterfly SEGUSHA This charming silk embroidered textile is from Uzbekistan, woven by the Lakai tribal group. Size is cm 75 ca each wing and cm 12 wide. 1st half of the 19th century, let’s say vintage if not old. Silk and cotton. Somebody says it’s a belly dance accessory, some museums write it’s a bedding cover. When i bought it about 50 or so years ago from an Afghani Uzbek dealer in Peshawar, Northern Pakistan, he said that it has been woven by his grand mother and it was a house warming present that his family used to weave anew every time they moved their yurt to a new place. He tried to explain why pattern had butterflies, but I’m not sure i understood well. It seems that the meaning was to remind them that their group was flying from one place to another according to the season. He said something about the number of butterflies, but i did not understand. So, we have here six butterflies on each wing and a red rose in the middle. Now the butterflies are looking for a new home. Please apply by dm or email to carlokocman@gmail.com
