Royal Shahsavan sumack mafrash main panel, also called The Peacock panel.
Cm 48x108 ca
2nd half of the 19th century.
Great pattern with two main rows formed each by seven peacocks that seem to protect the central field composed by five medallions with what seem to be anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figurines.
Each peacock has an s symbol on its important tail, a well known and widely used symbol of good luck, longevity, prosperity, etc.
Several silk inlets here and there.
Note also some other symbols, trees?, stars? diamonds?
The many colors are simply awesome, natural and deeply saturated.
In Babylonia and Persia the Peacock was seen as a guardian to royalty, and is often seen in engravings upon the thrones of royalties.
In very good if not mint condition.
This great panel has been with me for a long time, but now is ready to find a new home.
Please let me know if in need of more pics and infos.
