This khorjin, or saddlebag, is a delightful example of tribal weaving. Its focal point is a central medallion elegantly framed by four realistically woven birds nestled in the corners. a charming detail, the birds’ feathers and body are subtly mottled, adding to their lifelike appearance.
Flanking the central medallion on each side are more schematic “tree of life” motifs. The field of the saddlebag is also dotted with various scattered designs, including the auspicious, protective “s” motif.
A striking feature is the sinuous border in an undyed, ivory color, characteristic of the weaving traditions of the Qashqai and Luri tribes. This creates a lovely contrast with the main field, making the central design truly pop.
The reverse of the saddlebag is a testament to its practical origins, woven in a plain kilim with simple stripes that provide a pleasing contrast to the intricate artistry of the front.
Crafted with thick, high-quality wool, the pile of this khorjin is substantial, and all the dyes are natural, ensuring a rich and authentic color palette.
