This Qashqai kilim features a horizontal layout made up of bands of varying widths. Within these bands, the weaver incorporated a variety of traditional motifs — most notably the “comb” motif, often seen as a symbol of purity.
The main field displays a sense of freedom and improvisation, with subtle colour shifts and spontaneous motifs that give the piece a lively, expressive character. In contrast, the multiple borders appear more structured and balanced — though a closer look reveals delightful “perfect imperfections”, especially in the Lale Abbasi border in navy blue and white.
This kilim is dyed entirely with natural dyes, adding richness and depth to its colour palette while reflecting the authenticity of Qashqai weaving traditions.
A unique and characterful piece, blending artistry, symbolism, and the charm of handmade imperfection.
