a Superb Yaqoob Khani Baluch Rug – Afghanistan
This sYaqoob Khani Baluch rug from Afghanistan has a wonderfully wild and primitive character. Handwoven from unspun and undyed wool, it captures the essence of raw craftsmanship and natural beauty.
The design is simple and honest—a basic grid pattern where the abrash (natural colour variations in the wool) brings depth, movement, and a spontaneous rhythm to the piece. Its understated geometry allows the organic texture and tones of the wool to take centre stage.
Although the rug has been washed at its origin, it still holds traces of its past — a few tiny, stubborn remnants of desert plants from the arid Afghan landscape. Far from flaws, these subtle details add a layer of authenticity and charm, telling the story of where this rug was born and how it has endured.
A unique and soulful piece that embodies the unrefined beauty of Baluch tribal weaving.
