An antique Baluch rug featuring an exceptional emerald green colour.
This finely woven Baluch rug has a remarkably high knot density, allowing for an intricate and detailed design. The field is decorated with ten güls arranged in pairs. The wool is soft, lustrous, and of outstanding quality.
Particularly striking are the rich emerald green and warm ochre-orange tones, which create a beautiful contrast throughout the rug. All dyes are natural, and the piece displays a lovely abrash—the subtle colour variations characteristic of naturally dyed wool.
The rug retains its original, elaborately woven kilim ends. Within the striped sections, delicate floral motifs have been woven, showcasing the weaver’s attention to detail. The selvages are reinforced with black goat-hair cords, a traditional feature of the Baluch weavers.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool and goat hair for the side cords
Size: 247×125 cms
Origin: Baluch tribe from Afghanistan
Date of weaving: 1900s
