p.s......why is the the fourth "med" right below in red instead of white?
The Color Asymmetry of the Fourth Motif.
The variation where the bottom-right motif is woven against a deep red/rust ground instead of a solid white ground is a deliberate and celebrated characteristic of authentic tribal rugs. This occurs for two primary reasons:
• Tribal Improvisation (Abrar / Personal Whim): Unlike workshop carpets woven from rigid, drawn patterns (graphs), nomadic tribal bags were woven entirely from memory. Weavers frequently altered color distributions on the fly as an artistic choice to break perfect symmetry. Perfect symmetry was often intentionally avoided to ward off the "evil eye" or bad luck by ensuring the piece remained humanly imperfect.
• Material Constraints: Nomads dyed wool in small batches using natural vegetation and insects. If the weaver simply ran out of the specific hand-spun white/ivory wool batch while reaching the final corner of the bag, they would substitute it with a nearby color (in this case, the madder-dyed rust-red wool) to finish the piece.
This asymmetry acts as a hallmark of genuine, non-commercial tribal art rather than a defect.
Certainly a challenge for the Qashqai collector.......
price:
certainly interesting....
